Melton young gun Liam Carter has signed with Williamstown for the 2016 VFL season.
The defender put pen to paper on a deal with the Seagulls last week after a strong year with TAC Cup side the Western Jets.
Carter was one of the Jets’ most consistent players throughout season 2015 and was a backline leader.
He was named among his side’s best players in nine of his 17 matches.
Next season won’t be the 19-year-old’s first taste of life in a Williamstown jumper.
So impressive was Carter at the Jets this year that he forced his way into the Seagulls’ development team and maintained his position throughout the club’s finals campaign.
Eventually he went on to play in the development side’s premiership win against Box Hill.
Williamstown football manager Chris Dixon was impressed Carter was able to hold his own against older and bigger bodies.
“We really rate Liam as a footballer and see him as a quality key defender at VFL level,” Dixon said.
“His performances this year in the development finals series were incredible. He’s an exciting prospect.”
Carter finished fifth this year in the Western Jets’ best and fairest count.
He will be joined at Williamstown next season by fellow former Jets Lachlan Knight and Mitch Norton.
