Footscray Edgewater blown away by Essendon

It was a tough day at the office for Footscray Edgewater in the Premier Cricket.

The Bulldogs were beaten by eight wickets on their home turf by Essendon in a Twenty20 contest at Merv Hughes Oval.

Bulldogs captain Dean Russ won the toss and batted, but his side could only manage 110 in 19.5 overs.

Guy Walker (26) and Michael Hill (25) were the shining lights in the middle order for the Dogs, while four others made promising starts before losing their wickets in the teens.

Matthew Doric was a wrecking ball for Essendon with 4-20.

The Bombers coasted to victory two down with four overs to spare.

Aaron Shellie (43), Aaron Ayre (27) and Ben MacRae (25) picked off most of the required runs.

The Bulldogs will back up today in a Twenty20 match against Carlton at Princes Park from 2.30pm.
