Footscray Hockey Club women’s co-captain Lily Brazel has been named in the Hockeyroos team for next month’s International Festival of Hockey.
Brazel will be in the squad for IHF games against the USA, Netherlands and Japan, and possibly finals, at venues in Bendigo and Melbourne.
She will also be part of the Hockeyroos squad for a three-match test series against Japan in Adelaide following the IHF.
Brazel was earmarked as a potential Hockeyroo when she was selected for an Australian development squad that toured Japan.
Her strong performances for Victoria in the Australian Hockey League drew even more attention to her ability.
“Lily has impressed during the camp at the start of the year,” Hockeyroos coach Paul Gaudoin said.
“She had a very strong Development Tour of Japan and backed up with her performances with the winning Victorian team at the AHL in Perth.”
If Brazel does run on for the national team at the IHF, she will become only the second Footscray player in history to feature in an open age international match for Australia.
