Footscray Angliss gathered together on Sunday for a good cause.
The cricket club had been looking at ways to fundraise for a charity and decided to host a day to raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
Ladies committee vice-president Rachael Baines was behind the decision to raise money for the foundation.
Her mum died of ovarian cancer last year after battling it for three years.
“With ovarian cancer, 1720 Australian women a year will be diagnosed and only 25 per cent of women who are diagnosed in the advanced stages of ovarian cancer will live past five years,” she said.
“There is also no early detection test available so surgery is the only way for women to be diagnosed.”
About 50 people attended the day and the club raised $1600.
As part of the day, men were encouraged to dress in dresses and were part of the best dressed competition.
“Everyone was really happy with how it went,” Ms Baines said. “We were lucky to have a lot of people supportive of the club.
“We had Neale’s Spit Roast Catering do the catering, the party shack did the decorations and we had JH makeup artist and Beauty by Elise donate to the raffle.
“We’ll be looking to do more events as a yearly thing.”
