Footscray Edgewater is back in Premier Cricket’s top eight after a second consecutive win.

The Bulldogs cruised to a 118-run victory over Carlton at Merv Hughes Oval on Saturday, led by a remarkable innings from opener Greg Munro.

Munro amassed 175 off 236 balls, smashing 21 fours and five sixes all around the ground.

It not totally surprising Munro made such a big score –it’s been a feast or famine season.

It was Munro’s second century of the summer, to go with two half centuries, but this was by far the biggest of the lot and one of the most important knocks of his career, considering what was at stake for the Bulldogs.

Munro’s biggest partnership came with captain Dylan Kight, who made 65 not out off 172 balls. Munro and Kight got together with the Bulldogs on 4-137, chasing Carlton’s 216 and piling on 178 for the fifth wicket.

The other notable batsman was Hayden Butterworth, with 42 off 62, but this was undoubtedly Munro’s party.

Footscray Edgewater heads into the penultimate round in eighth spot, but has a conga-line of teams waiting for them to slip up.

The Bulldogs will be out to cause an upset against ladder-leader Camberwell Magpies in a two-day game at Camberwell sports ground.

In sub-district cricket, Williamstown put up an imposing 8-316 on day one of a two-day game against Croydon at Croydon Oval.

The standout for the top-of-the-table Seagulls was No. 5 batsman Mitchell Streiff, who made 104.

Streiff followed up from his score of 75 not out a week earlier, and is one of the in-form batsmen in the competition.

Craig Sheedy (42) and Matthew Twentyman (39) were also helpful hands for the Seagulls.

Yarraville now faces a victory target of 241 on the second day away at Melton, while Altona, which made just 126, fought back to have Mount Waverley 3-35 at stumps.

In the VTCA senior division, Spotswood won a closely fought battle over Keilor by two runs at Donald McLean Reserve.

Chasing 193 for victory, the Woodsmen were in all sorts of trouble at 9-161, but a 10th wicket partnership between Ashley Robertson (78no) and Andrew Butler (14) got them home.

The Woodsmen moved to within one point of top side Yarraville Club, which was beaten by 50 runs at home to Greenvale Kangaroos, despite 64 to Justin Baker.
