Hard run home for Altona

It was a rough weekend for Altona in the Hockey Victoria men’s Premier League.

The Seagulls were shut out at home by Waverley in a 1-0 loss at their home ground on Saturday.

The fallout of the defeat means the Seagulls tumble from sixth to eighth on the ladder.

With three rounds to go, all is not lost for Altona, as they remain clinging to a spot in the top eight.

However, the Seagulls cannot afford a slip up now, otherwise some hungry teams on the outer could seize control of their finals’ spot.

Altona will be looking to reload for a crucial away game against high flying Camberwell at Matlock Reserve on Saturday.

It will be a good chance for the Seagulls to flash their finals’ credentials.

Footscray is flying high in fourth spot after a 4-1 win over Melbourne University.

Liam Braithwaite, Robert Wilson, Sam McIntosh and Kyle Gildea found the back of the net in the win for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will travel to ninth-placed MCC on Saturday.

In the women’s Premier League, Altona had an entertaining 3-3 draw with Waverley.

Danielle Schubach scored a double for the Seagulls, while Jessica Brennan added the other.

Footscray hit an unexpected speed hump in a 3-1 loss to bottom-of-the-ladder Melbourne University.

The finals-bound Bulldogs could only manage one goal for the game off the stick of Olivia Colasurdo.

The Dogs will be desperate to bounce back when at Camberwell on Saturday.
