Jonathan Brown snares wicket in Yarraville Club’s big win

All that matters is the win, right?

Yarraville Club scored big on that front with a 112-run shellacking of Strathmore in the VTCA senior division at Hansen Reserve on Saturday.

There was extra spice added to the Clubbers with former Brisbane Lions’ champion Jonathan Brown donning the coloured one-day strip for the club.

Brown drew a larger than normal crowd, and the club raised money through its ‘Have a Crownie with Browny’ sportsmen’s night.

But Brown’s impact in the match was limited, partly because of the Clubbers’ easy victory.

Slated to come in at No. 8, Brown never had a chance to bat, as Yarraville Club made a massive 5-235 off 40 overs, spearheaded by 91 from James Damjanovski.

At least Brown had the chance to bowl. He was understandably a bit rusty, but still excited the home fans, taking 1-22 off three overs with a wicket to finish. Most of the damage was done by Emmett Bronca 3-32 and Andrew Cullen (3-7), though.

Yarraville Club continues to lead the way at the top of the ladder, six points clear of second-placed Spotswood. The Woodsmen maintained their pursuit of the Clubbers with a 38-run win over Airport West-St Christophers.

Trent McCormick was the stand-out for the Woodsmen with 78, while Ashley Robertson took a team-high 3-14.

In north-west division, Indika Gallage took 8-20 as the Druids slaughtered St Albans by 121 runs to consolidate third spot.

An even team performance saw Altona North pull off a shock 23-run win over second-placed West Coburg, but there were losses for Laverton, Seddon and Footscray United.
