Kris Blicavs returns home to the Sunbury Jets

The Sunbury Jets have welcomed back a former talented junior to the club for next year’s Big V men’s division 1 season.

The Jets announced during the week that Kris Blicavs was returning to the club and would be a key plank in their attempts to rise up the ladder.

Blicavs last played with the Jets in 2010 when he was part of their youth league side, before moving on to Diamond Valley for two seasons.

He then moved to the South East Australian Basketball League where he played for the Ballarat Miners for two seasons and then Geelong Supercats for the last three seasons.

Blicavs, who can play both guard and forward, said he was looking forward to returning to his junior association.

“Being able to play a part in building a positive culture within the association where I grew up playing my junior basketball is something that excites me,” he said.

“It’ll give me a chance to get back to where it all began and create an environment where junior players not only aspire to but are welcomed and given a place to grow and develop as players.”

“I plan on bringing positive leadership, a hardworking, no-nonsense approach to basketball and drive with the goal of winning basketball games.

“I think getting everyone on the same page [and] working toward the same goal is number one, after that, taking care of business with the goal of hanging a banner.”

Jets’ coach director Kennedy Kereama said not only would Blicavs help in developing the team, he was a good team mate and would provide leadership.

“Kris brings a wealth of playing experience, versatility, and leadership to the men’s side and club,” Kereama said.

“His ability to play and defend any position from point guard through to forward is going to be a real asset to the men’s team.

“He is a great athlete that can run the floor, handle the ball, penetrate, create, shoot, pass and rebound.”

Blicavs is the second major signing for the Jets, with import Ish Sanders returning the club, having played at the Jets in 2016.
