Magic proves far too tricky

Altona Magic has re-established its six-point buffer at the top of the Football Federation Victoria men’s state league 1.

Magic obliterated Cairnlea 6-1 at Paisley Park on Saturday and took advantage of a draw between second and third-placed Preston Lions and Sydenham Park on the same day.

Altona scored goals at will against the hapless Cairnlea, including one after just 30 seconds from Jon McShane.

McShane finished with a hat-trick to move into the outright lead for the competition golden boot with 11 goals, two ahead of teammate Adamson Ajayi.

James Stefanou fired in a double and Jason Hayne rounded out the scoring for Magic.

Yarraville Glory played out a 1-1 draw with Keilor Park on the road, Keith Dunne scoring for Glory to make it five in six games.

Altona East Phoenix was mauled 5-0 by Banyule City and remains under the threat of relegation.

In state league 2, Altona City was edged 2-1 by Sunbury United away on Saturday, while in state league 3, Melbourne City won a local stoush 2-0 over Williamstown.
