Newport Power will field a senior team for the first time in the Western Region Football League.

The club has made an early splash with 2008 Hawthorn premiership forward and dual club leading goalkicker Mark Williams signing on to coach the club in its WRFL inaugural season.

It is not the first time a team from the suburb will be represented – Newport, Newport CYMS, Newport United and West Newport were involved in the previous century.

The Power has built a strong foundation as a junior club for the past 10 years and is sure to be full of homegrown youngsters when it enters division 3 next season.
