Footscray went into the second day’s play against Northcote with optimism, but it quickly seeped away in a heavy six-wicket loss in their Victorian Premier Cricket clash at Merv Hughes Oval on Saturday.
The Bulldogs felt like they had the score on the board to trouble the visitors, but Northcote not only passed the target, they did so with ease.
Bulldogs captain Dylan Kight said his side did not bowl to its potential, which made it easy for Northcote to dictate proceedings. “
They deserve a lot of credit for the way they went about it,” he said.
“They paced their innings really well. “On our side of it, we didn’t bowl really well at all.
“We bowled both sides of the wicket and we just gave them too many loose balls to hit.
“They capitalised on pretty much all of them.”
Elliot Brandon-Jones was dominant for Northcote with 127.

Mitchell Barnewall was Footscray’s lone multiple wicket taker with 2-74.
Footscray will turn its attention to its important clash with Essendon at Windy Hill in a two-day game starting on Saturday.
Kight expects it to be a fierce contest against a rival side.
“There’s always plenty of aggression out on to the field,” he said.
“They’re an attacking team and we like to think of ourselves as an attacking team as well, so we play very similar brands of cricket, so there’s always good encounters.
“Off the field we’re as good as gold though and we get along with them well.”
