Western Athletics rising star Jack Rayner has won the open men’s section at the Athletics Victoria 10-mile heritage race.
The race was the third round of the cross country series at the new location of Cruden Farm in Langwarrin.
The heritage round sees many clubs participate in their original club uniforms, and Rayner wore the original Sunshine singlet.
It was a tough race of four 4km loops, consisting of rolling hills and mud.
But Rayner, 20, lapped up the difficult conditions and led the way to victory for Western’s division 2 men’s team.
He cleared away in the final lap to win by 17 seconds in a time of 50 minutes 15.9 seconds.
It was the first open win for Western Athletics at the event.
Other standout performers were Liam Cashin and Cody Shanahan in the under-20 6km event. Cashin replicated his win from the previous round, while Shanahan came in third.
In under-14 girls, Mia White once again proved her cross country ability by winning the 4km event.
