There was a sense of relief for Parkside after it won through to the Western Region Football League division 2 grand final.
After their worst performance of the season in the first week of the finals, the Magpies bounced back on Saturday against North Footscray in their semi final.
The match was close for three quarters as the Magpies didn’t make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.
They would take control of the game in the final quarter with four goals to none to win, 9.20 (74)-6.10 (46).
Magpies coach Chris Muratore said it would be a big week for the club.
“It was more relief than anything,” he said. “The twos are in the grand final as well and that was one of our main aims.
“It was one of our goals and we’ve been building for three years, so it’s a big tick. There’s a big sigh of relief.”
Muratore said every time they play North Footscray it’s a tough game of football. He said both teams came to play.
“We had 29 scoring shots and another three or four out on the full,” he said. “We were in control for the main part of the game.
“It was a good game to watch. They always take it up to us.”
Muratore said there were a few nerves when they were missing shots, while the Devils were kicking goals from everywhere.
He said while they would have liked to have kicked a few more goals, they were pleased to have created so many opportunities.
Jackson Lesko kicked three goals for the Magpies.
Muratore said Jy Lambley, Shaun Campbell and Luke Vraca were some of the standouts in the win,
Connor Roach was the Devils best.
The Magpies now face Point Cook Centrals in the grand final. Centrals are looking to achieve the perfect season.
Muratore said they know they have to step it up this week if they’re to claim the premiership.
“We’ve got to fix up some areas,” he said. “We have to change a couple of things, as we haven’t been able to execute the things we’ve wanted to against them.
“They are the best team in the competition. On the day anyone can win, and we’ll go in with some confidence.”
Muratore said they were encouraging the playing group to take in the feeling of playing in a grand final, as it doesn’t come around every day.
“We want to enjoy the week and have some fun.”
In division 3, Braybrook kept its season alive with a thrilling semi final win against Sunshine Heights.
The Brookers came from 11 points down at the last break to win, 13.11 (89)-12.9 (81).
The Brookers now face Albanvale for a spot in the grand final. The Suns await the winner in the grand final.
