Seabrook Cricket Club will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this month.
Founded in 1971, the club was originally known as St Paul’s Cricket Club due to the fact that it was founded by the students and staff at St Paul’s College in Altona North.
The club plans to celebrate the milestone on Saturday, February 19 with an event held at Bruce Comben Reserve, their home ground.
Junior Coordinator Lionel Thomas said the club feels a sense of pride that it has been able to keep operating and growing throughout the last 50 years.
He said the sense of community and camaraderie around the club is what makes it so special.
“I think we are a tight knit community [that] espouses the values of being a family club,” he said.
“We have people from all backgrounds and ages that have embraced each other and become lifelong friends. We sometimes joke that we come to play cricket so that we can spend the day with our mates. The cricket is a bonus.”
One of the highlights from the past 50 years was when both the first and second XI won premierships in the 2017/18 season, Thomas said.
“Both games were played at the same venue so it was a special occasion that we were able to celebrate together,” he said.
Thomas said he can’t thank everyone who has supported the club over the years enough.
“We want to thank everyone that has been involved at the club for the last 50 years for supporting us. For those who are unfortunately no longer with us, we can’t thank you enough for the work that you did at the club.
