Williamstown’s men’s and women’s Victorian Football League squads are starting to take shape.
The club announced more signings for both squads last week as they both look to bounce back from tough 2022 seasons which resulted in few wins.
Jack Cooley is switching sides of the country to join the men’s side. Cooley joins the Seagulls from East Perth who played in the Western Australian Football League.
Cooley averaged nearly 19 possessions and 3.6 marks a game this season. The 21-year-old had previously received an invite to the AFL state combine after a strong finish to his under age career when he was named best on ground in Claremont’s premiership in the WAFL Colts competition in 2019. He made his senior debut last year for East Perth.
He is the second new signing announced by the Seagulls with Mathew Walker crossing from North Melbourne to help strength the squad.
The club’s latest signing is Will Jury from Strathmore.
Jury, who is 20, won the Essendon District Football League premier division best and fairest award this year.
The re-signing of Jake Greiser was also announced last week. The rebounding backman is closing in on 100 VFL games having made his debut in 2015.
Best and fairest winner Tom Downie, skipper Cameron Polson, Finbar O’Dwyer, Jack Toner and James Cousins have already committed for next season.
On the women’s side, Sharnie Whiting and Jasmine Kawa are both back for the women’s side
Whiting averaged more than 17 possessions a game for the Seagulls last season and was a key to the side.
Kawa wasn’t fair behind averaging 15 disposals per game last season.
Erin Meade and Ruby Tripodi had already re-signed as the club locked in its leaders for next year.
The club is yet to announce their new women’s coach after Penny Cula-Reid stepped down from the role.
