Spotswood leaves Seddon shellshocked

Spotswood has stunned Seddon and shaken up the VTCA north west division finals race.

The Woodsmen only had 192 runs to defend at Hanmer Reserve on Saturday, but they routed the Dockers for just 82.

The final round for both Spotswood and Seddon is now unlikely to go their way. At least the Woodsmen’s win over a local rival will linger well. After an 88 not out by skipper Andrew Dickinson on day one, the Woodsmen defended well, with Jeremy Brown and Ashley Robertson taking three wickets apiece.

Laverton is closer to the dreaded wooden spoon after a thrashing by Keilor Park, while Altona North is stuck in the bottom two after losing to Airport West-St Christophers.

In senior division, Yarraville Club trounced Tullamarine by 178 runs to take second spot.

In west A1, Altona Roosters remain without a win this year, but are still clinging to top spot on the back of their strong pre-Christmas form.

The Roosters 70-run loss to Williamstown CYMS opens them up to a raid by red-hot StAndrews, unbeaten since round two.

The Saints held a 26-run win over Wyndham Vale after 4-29 from Mathew Pipczak.

In Premier Cricket, Footscray Edgewater posted 258 on the road against Melbourne, which made 0-31 in reply at the Albert Ground.

Dean Russ (87) and Lucas Dredge (45no) were the standout batsmen for the Bulldogs.

In sub-district, Altona posted 211 against Williamstown, led by Aaron Maynard (64), Shane Jones (53) and Greg Sheehan (47).

Murray Ring was the chief destroyer for the Seagulls with 5-61.

Yarraville made 7-225 to leave its clash with Moorabbin hanging in the balance heading into the second day on Saturday. Veteran David Wolfe top-scored for the Eagles with 54.
