Spotswood has made a flying start to its Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket Competition north west shield Twenty20 campaign with a 21-run win over Edinburgh at McLean Reserve on Saturday.
The Woodswomen scored at better than five runs an over to reach 3-107 off 20 overs, with Kareena Jacobsen-Logan leading the way with 39 not out, including seven fours in an entertaining innings.
There were also contributions for the Woodswomen from Tracey Gleeson (24), Kim Borg (18) and Tara Crisp (10).
The required run rate was too much to handle for Edinburgh, which finished 5-86. Borg was the star of the show for the Woodswomen with 2-2 off four overs.
Jacobsen-Logan was the other multiple wicket taker with 2-22 off four.
Top-of-the-ladder Spotswood will travel to Gillon Oval on Sunday to face Carlton-Brunswick in the third T20 of the season.
In the west division, Altona Roosters won a thriller over Melton Centrals by three runs at Blackwood Drive Reserve.
Harmony Nally was the standout with the bat for the Roosters with 25 not out in her team’s 6-106 off 20 overs.
Melton Centrals just fell short of the target, finishing with 6-103.
Rebeca Cooke led the way with the ball for the Roosters with 2-20, while Katelin Nolton produced 1-8 off four.
In the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division, Yarraville Club has maintained its lead with a nine-run win over Spotswood at McLean Reserve. Set 177 for victory, the Clubbers reached the target four down on the back of some brilliant batting from opener Will Sheridan (65) and second drop Joey Blake (84 not out).
Seddon has leapt up to third after a 47-run victory over Tullamarine at Hanmer Reserve. The Dockers skittled Tulla for just 117 and cruised past the target to finish on 8-164.
In north west division, Skand Vohra took 5-43 to help guide Laverton to a 23-run win over Keilor Park, while Leigh Wilson (74) and Shane Windridge (62) were key to Druids win over PEGS.
Altona North lost for the first time this summer by 58 runs to Aberfeldie, but managed to keep a grip on top spot.
