Williamstown star Ruby Tripodi’s strong Victorian Football League Women’s form has been recognised, picked up in the AFLW supplementary draft.
Tripodi was selected by North Melbourne with pick 23 in the draft on Tuesday night.
Tripodi arrives at Arden Street following three seasons and back-to-back best and fairest wins in Williamstown’s VFLW side.
North Melbourne AFLW football performance and talent manager Rhys Harwood said the club was excited to give the 21-year-old an opportunity at AFLW level after impressing with her pressure and craft.
“Ruby is an outstanding person who has put significant effort into earning this opportunity, and we are thrilled to be able to give it to her,” he said.
“We have been really impressed with Ruby’s performances at VFLW level over a long period of time, winning the last two best and fairest awards for Williamstown, and the development she has shown in the first two rounds of this season.
“Ruby has attributes we feel will transition well into our system as both a midfielder and forward. She has strong craft around stoppages and congestion and is creative by hand in tight. Her capacity to pressure and compete in a defensive sense are also attributes we value highly.
“We know she is a player and person who will leave no stone unturned in pushing her case for selection and making the most of this opportunity. “
Williamstown coach Liam Cavanagh said in the lead up to the draft, that she was one player from the club on the radar of AFLW clubs.
In two games this season for the Seagulls, she is averaging five more possessions a game than last season.
Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs have finalised their list.
The Bulldogs selected Dominique Carruthers with pick 11, while they picked up Maggie Gorham and Brianna McFarlane after the draft as restricted free agents.
