Tullamarine trips up Spotswood

Spotswood hit a snag on Saturday with an unexpected 21-run loss to the previously winless Tullamarine in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division at McLean Reserve.

The Woodsmen seemed to be coasting to victory when they restricted the Demons to a gettable 9-127 off their maximum 40 overs.

Allan Wise was the main weapon for the Woodsmen attack with an economical 3-12 off eight overs, while Upal Singankutti-Achchige claimed 3-30 off eight.

But Spotswood’s run chase turned out to be a fizzer.

The Woodsmen were routed for just 106 in 37.4 miserable overs.

The defeat leaves the Woodsmen outside the top four and in desperate need of a win against Doutta Stars in a two-day game back at McLean Reserve starting on Saturday.

Seddon had a boilover nine-run win over top side Yarraville Club at the Walker Street Oval.

The Dockers made a positive 9-184 off their 40 overs and then restricted the Clubbers to 8-175.

In north west division, it was a clean sweep of losses for local sides Altona North, Druids and Laverton.

Altona North tumbled to third on the ladder after a nine-run loss to PEGS at the PEGS Sports Fields.

Murray Ring took 4-46 as North contained PEGS to 9-173.

It proved to be too much for the North batsmen, who were all out for 164, despite the best efforts of Luke Rainone, who scored 63.

Druids was uprooted from the top four after a disappointing 17-run loss on home soil to Craigieburn at Shorten Reserve.

Druids could only muster 127 with Ben Coddington (42) and Sam Thurston (35) the shining lights.

Indike Gallage, the Druids new ball operator, made it a difficult run chase for Craigieburn, taking 4-13 off 7.3 overs, but the visitors went on to make 144.

Laverton lost a thriller to Sunshine United by eight runs at Selwyn Park.

The Magpies posted 9-146 off 51 overs with Kaine Hallinan leading the way with 34.

United eventually reached the target and finished on 6-154.
