Footscray Edgewater has endured a tormenting second week of Premier Cricket’s shortest format with two narrow losses.
The Bulldogs could only snare one win out of four Twenty20 games in the past two weekends and finished with a three-game losing streak.
The good news for the Dogs is that the results have not cost them a spot in the top eight.
Stellar early season form in the longer formats kept them in seventh place following the T20 section of the draw.
The Bulldogs will be looking forward to getting back into a two-day game when they face Ringwood on the road in the final match before the Christmas break.
In game one on Saturday, Footscray Edgewater went down by four wickets in the last over to Prahran at Toorak Park.
The Bulldogs posted a competitive 7-126, Hayden Butterworth leading the way with 64 and Matthew Underwood (25) and Tim Buszard (23) providing some valuable late runs. It was a total that proved just short of the mark when Prahran passed the target with five balls to spare, despite three wickets to Bulldog spinner Jeremy Hart.
In the second game on Sunday, it was a near identical tale, with Footscray Edgewater going down by four wickets to Casey-South Melbourne at the Merv Hughes Oval with an over to spare.
The Bulldogs made 8-121, with Matthew Gudde top-scoring with 38 off just 26 balls and Buszard reaching 25 not out at the close of the innings.
The Dogs seemed to have a stranglehold over the contest when Casey-South Melbourne struggled to 5-54, but some lusty hitting from Dylan Hadfield, who made 48 off 23 balls, delivered them to another loss.
