Western Rams to build on a solid start

The season may have just finished, but the Western Rams are already looking ahead.

The Rams, the junior arm of the Rockbank Football Netball Club, are looking to build on the foundations put in place this year.

After seven seasons without junior football or netball teams, the Rams had an under-10 team this year in the Riddell District Football League.

The side finished its season last month and the club put on a special celebration night for players, which included an appearance from Western Bulldogs star Liam Picken.

Rams’ football operations manager Gavin Sporle said they were already taking expressions of interest for next year.

“We started the season with 16 players and finished with 23,” he said.

“It was a really successful season and we want to build on that.

“We’re hoping that we can field a football and netball side in every age group.”

Sporle said at this stage it looked like the club would at least have football teams in the two youngest age groups.

Whether they will be even or odd age groups is still being decided with the RDFL doing a review of the junior structures.

Anyone interested in playing at the Western Rams can contact Gavin on 0481 912 604.
