Williamstown has the big-game experience and an insatiable appetite to defend its Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association crown.

Seagulls captain Brent McMinn is confident his side has come good at the right time of the season.

Commanding wins in the final two rounds has put a pep in the step of the Seagulls as they bid for back-to-back flags in March.

“You always want to try and win your last couple of games of the season to get some momentum heading into the finals, so the team is going in with some good confidence,” McMinn said.

“We’ve lost some games during the year at times, but if you’re in form at the pointy end of the season, that’s all that really matters.”

Williamstown has been at its brutal best in the past fortnight.

A week after mauling finals chasers Elsternwick by 106 runs, the Seagulls thrashed Moorabbin by seven wickets in a final round one-day game at the Williamstown Cricket Ground on Saturday.

The Seagulls rolled Moorabbin out for 114 and passed the target in a speedy 24.3 overs.

McMinn, who was key to the bowling performance with 4-27 off nine overs, warned the rest of the field his side is back to its best.

The only question mark from the outside is whether the Seagulls can sustain those types of performances over the next three weekends.

“On our day, we’ll beat anyone in the competition,” McMinn said.

“We’ve got the experience, we got the job done last year and we’ve got a lot of guys who were part of that team still playing with us.

“I’ve got full faith in us, I’m hoping we can go all the way.

“Why not?”

Williamstown’s run chase was a quick kill. The Seagulls reached the target with no sweat as Matthew Dervan led the way with 47 off 51.

Williamstown will face third-placed Oakleigh in a blockbuster two-day semi-final at Warrawee Park.
