Williamstown flexed its muscle against North Ballarat on Saturday, blowing the Roosters away in the first quarter to set up a percentage-boosting win in the VFL.
Travelling to Eureka Stadium, the Seagulls had more than three times as many shots on goal as their opponents as they romped home for a 17.21 (123) to 4.8 (32) win.
The victory was built on a blistering opening quarter with the Gulls booting eight goals to one to open up a 43-point buffer by the first change.
Arryn Siposs started well with two first quarter goals, as the Seagulls set up a pattern of multiple goalkickers which would remain for the rest of the clash.
They were also able to keep the home side to just two behinds for the next two quarters as the lead ballooned beyond 10 goals.
The Roosters went from the 11-minute mark of the first quarter until just after three quarter-time without a major.
The home side nearly won the final quarter, but by then the damage had been done as Siposs and Leigh Masters both finished with four goals in the rout.
Elsewhere, Footscray led for most of the day at Port Melbourne but was unable to keep the lead when it mattered most and they went down to the Borough, 17.9 (111) to 12.9 (81).
The sides traded blows all afternoon, with neither side able to break the game open across the first three quarters of a match that was worthy of a final.
Footscray led by five points at quarter-time, eight points at half-time and three points at the final change, and by halfway through the final quarter scores were locked at 80 apiece.
That was when the home side made its move, with two quick goals to open the game up as Footscray struggled to get the ball into scoring positions.
The Dogs would add just one behind for the rest of the match as the Borough continued their unbeaten start to the season.
Footscray has three wins after five rounds ahead of this week’s clash with Geelong.
