Woodsmen start with win

Spotswood opened its Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association T20 campaign with a win, but Altona, Yarraville and Williamstown all suffered losses.

After the opening round was washed out, teams took to the pitch on Tuesday to play the shortest format.

Spotswood faced off against Williamstown in a local battle.

The Woodsman made 8-143 from its 20 overs, with Taylor Tatterson top scoring with 32

Sean Sturrick and Glenn Hannah took two wickets each for the Seagulls.

The Seagulls fell short, finishing with 8-126 from its overs.

Jack Craig top scored with 28.

Lachlan McKenna was the only multiple wicket taker for the Woodsmen, taking two wickets.

Altona fell short against Hoppers Crossing in its match up.

The Cats made 9-139 from its overs.

Simon Lambert top scored with 53 at the top of the order, while guest player Max Birthsel took four wickets for Altona.

The A’s were bowled out for 99. Skipper Ben Davies top scored with 40.

Brett Smith was the pick of the bowlers for the Cats, taking 4-8 off three overs.

Werribee came out on top against Yarraville.

The Tigers made 6-147 from its 20 overs

Fielding a different looking line up, Matthew Harmer led the way with 77 off 58 balls at the top of the order.

Aryan Mehra took 4-20 for the Eagles

The Eagles lost an early wicket before settling and getting to 1-61. The wickets then started to fall and they lost momentum, finishing 9-135.

Ashish Mathew top scored with 46

Jacob Knight and Nathan Havard took two wickets each.

In the other west match, Taylors Lakes started its campaign with a win against Melton on Tuesday.

Taylors Lakes made 9-122 from its overs with Aamir Raza top scoring with 29. Rhys Berry took three wickets for Melton. Melton fell just short, finishing 8-115. Conrad Farrugia top scored with 43.
