Yarraville bats for the win

Yarraville has produced a remarkable run chase to beat Ivanhoe by two wickets in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association north-west group season opener at the Yarraville Oval on Saturday.

The Eagles found containment hard with the ball early on, coughing up 8-237 to Ivanhoe off 45 overs.

Nathan Allen (2-36) and Mitchell Cross (2-62) were the Eagles only multiple wicket takers.

Yarraville got off to a flyer thanks to Matthew Love (52) and Matthew Harrison (48). The Eagles openers put on 72 for the first wicket before Love was run out. Love’s aggressive knock including 11 fours.

The strength of Yarraville’s innings was its ability to share of the workload, with eight batsmen reaching double figures, including No. 8 Josh Turner, who made 36 not out.

Williamstown was in total control in a six-wicket win over Coburg at the Williamstown Cricket Ground.

In a stellar bowling and fielding performance, the Seagulls restricted the Burgers to a gettable 9-127.

The Seagulls had no trouble reaching the target with 10.3 overs to spare with veterans Dale McDonald (60no) and Craig Sheedy (37no) leading the way.

Altona had the most comfortable win of all, downing St Bernard’s by eight wickets. The A’s cruised to the 74 target with the loss of just two wickets.

Shannon Clarke was the A’s standout on the day with 3-9 off seven overs.

In Premier Cricket, Dylan Kight fired with a century as Footscray chased down a tough target to beat Northcote by five wickets at Merv Hughes Oval.

Set 212 for victory, the Bulldogs reached the mark with 15 balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, Tim Buszard had a hand in six dismissals for Footscray, snaring 4-33 and taking two catches.
