Yarraville will take plenty of positives out of its first win of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association east-west season on Saturday.

The Eagles showed some form with both the bat early and then the ball to come away with the points against Noble Park.

Captain-coach Jonah Koch said it was a good result for the group.

“We can’t complain at all,” he said. “On another day we probably would have wanted a few more runs, but credit to the bowling group who got the job done.

“We’ll just work even harder this week.”

The Eagles made 137, bowled out for in the 43rd over. The score could have been a bit higher, after starting the innings 0-73.

Koch said there was some positive out of that.

“Sometimes last year we struggled up front to establish an innings,” he said. “We just got to work on the back end of the innings and make sure we close it out.

“Noble Park did bowl well through the middle and the end of the innings, so credit to them too.”

Aidan Salvado top scored with 58 at the top of the order.

Despite not having a big score to defend, it was enough with the Eagles bowling Noble Park out for 94.

Ashane De Silva 5-17 off nine overs.

Koch said they were pretty pleased with the bowling performance.

“Any time you bowl a side out for under 100, you’re pretty happy,” he said.

“Ash De Silva really set it up with his leggies and bowled exceptionally well. All the other bowlers just held up an end while he did what he did.”

For the first year coach, aside from the weather and several weeks of no play, things had been going well.

He said they were just happy to get out on the park and play.

“It’s nice to be on the park playing,” he said. “We’ve got a pretty similar line up to last year and I think we’re heading in the right direction.”

This weekend the Eagles face Box Hill and Balwyn in two important fixtures.

In other results, Spotswood and Altona remain undefeated.

Spotswood easily overcame Mt Waverley.

Mt Waverley made 8-172 from its overs, before Spotswood finished 3-176 in the 38th over.

Captain Jackson Knight top scored with 70 not out.

Altona came away with the win against Taylors Lakes. The Lions made 9-134 from their overs with James Grubb taking three wickets.

The A’s then made 5-136 to claim the win. Adam Yates made 61 not out.

Williamstown suffered its first loss of the season, falling short against Box Hill.

Box Hill made 9-187 before bowling the Seagulls out for 173.
