Yarraville has snapped out of its sub-district cricket funk in the best possible way, thrashing new kids on the block Taylors Lakes by 78 runs at Yarraville Oval on Saturday – and posting their first win of the campaign.
Set a modest 192 for victory, seasoned Eagles’ campaigners Matthew Love (109) and Matthew Harrison (128no) got to work, sending the ball all around the ground during a 219-run second wicket partnership.
Harrison belted 22 fours and a six, while Love made 13 fours and three sixes as the Eagles amassed 2-269.
Without a win after the opening four rounds, Yarraville will be hoping this will kickstart their summer, as they face a must-win, two-day game away to third-last Box Hill.
Williamstown has moved into the top six after an outright win over Hoppers Crossing away at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Seagulls were in command from go to whoa to record a comfortable win.
Brent McMinn was the standout with the bat, making 42 and 35 not out, while there were four wickets apiece to Murray Ring in the first innings and Bryce Preston in the second innings.

Altona remains best placed of the local clubs, despite losing by 61 runs to Balwyn in the top of the table clash at Frank Kirk Oval. The A’s could only muster 199 in their chase for Balwyn’s 7-260.
Shane Jones was the standout for the A’s with 71, but a number of teammates could not go on with their starts – three players were dismissed in the 20s and three more out in the teens.

In the VTCA senior division, Yarraville Club got the first innings points over Doutta Stars on day one at Buckley Park.
The Clubbers were on shaky ground, skittled for 147, but their bowlers came out breathing fire to rout the Stars for 52. Emmett Bronca torched the Stars with a 7-11 off 11 overs. The Clubbers are 0-24, with an overall lead of 119.
Spotswood has an interesting run chase on its hands after being set 242 for a win over Strathmore on the road at Syd McGain Oval.
