Williamstown CYMS is looking towards the future in the Victorian Amateur Football Association Premier B competition.

Having been promoted to the second top division for the 2020 season, the CYs are yet to play out a full season at this level due to the pandemic.

With changes to the list the last two years, the side is completely different to the one who won the premiership in 2019.

For coach Con Terzoglou this season is about finding their identity in the football world.

“We’ve got a young list, which has been more through natural attrition,” he said.

“We’ve had a bit of turnover the last two years like most clubs have. We entered this season with no expectations.

“We’ve played half an interrupted season in Premier B. We want to start to develop at this level and consistency across the season will help with that.

“We’ve got a younger group that has that opportunity.”

It’s Terzoglou’s first season in charge of the CYs senior side, but he is no stranger to the club having coached the under-19s previously.

He said he was enjoying the new challenge.

“I’ve coached upwards of 95 per cent of the list along the way,” he said.

“It was an easy transition. I’m more than happy with where we are at. It’s about developing how we want to play.”

The CYs had the bye on the weekend. They sit eighth out of nine teams with two wins so far.

Terzoglou said they had been a little bit up and down at times. Their last match which was a win was massive for the side.

“We had blown a couple of close matches,” he said. “We had played well but didn’t get the result.

“It’s been about how we are training and we’re heading in the right direction.

“The narrative with quite a young side has been to be patient. A win every now and then helps the younger guys keep plugging away week in and week out.”

As well as having a strong senior team, in the under-19 competition. The side sits third in the premier competition.

The seniors this week face Beaumaris.
