Newport is after a new senior coach with Ziggy Kadour deciding to step down at the end of the Western Region Football League division 2 season.

The club announced on social media on Monday night that Kadour had made the decision to finish up once the season concluded.

“Ziggy has been senior coach for the previous five seasons; and with the senior group now entrenched in division 2,” the club’s post said.

“Ziggy has decided now is the best time to step aside and allow the group to begin their search for the next senior coach early.

“Newport Football Club would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Ziggy for his outstanding contribution to our football club.”

The club said they would advertise for senior and reserves coaches in the coming weeks.

Newport currently sits sixth on the table, one of three teams equal on 24 points. The club along with Wyndhamvale, which sits in fifth, had points taken off them after an ugly incident between the two clubs.

Kadour previously captained the side having first played at Newport in under-10s

He played more than 350 games for the club.

Kadour took over as coach in 2018 and has helped the side become a competitive division 2 side.

On Saturday, Newport beat North Footscray to help keep its finals hopes alive.

A five goal to two second half was the difference, with Newport winning, 11.8 (74)-7.8 (50).
