FIREFIGHTERS last Friday saved a passenger ferry from sinking after it started filling with water at Gem Pier off Williamstown.
The 15-metre Southern Spirit, which can carry up to 100 passengers, began to sink just before 6am.
Twenty-three firefighters pumped water from the vessel for about 45 minutes to save it from going under.
