Not a drop wasted at Paisley Park project

WORK on a $6.5 million water security project began last week, with the turning of the first sod at Newport’s Paisley Park.

Hobsons Bay mayor Angela Altair (pictured with federal Gellibrand MP Nicola Roxon) said stormwater from drainage systems would be filtered through a wetland or biofilter then collected in a pond or underground tanks and pumped to local sports grounds for irrigation.

“Stormwater harvesting points will be built at Laverton Park, Paisley Park and Williamstown Cricket Ground,” Cr Altair said.

“The scheme will result in up to 184 megalitres, or almost 74 Olympic-sized swimming pools of water, being saved each year.”
