Australia Day honours: Former Bulldog Alan Clough a Seddon footy legend

WEST Footscray’s Alan Clough has been honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to Australian Rules football, lawn bowls and the community.

Clough had a distinguished playing and umpiring career in football in the western suburbs, including stints as a player with the Footscray Bulldogs and as captain, coach and president of the Seddon Football Club.

He was named a life patron and club legend of the Seddon Football Club in 1998 and inducted into the Western Region Football League Umpires Association’s Hall of Fame in 2005. He was awarded legend status three years later.

Clough has been a longstanding member of the St Leonards Bowling Club, where he was the veteran champion in 2004-05 and served as chairman.

Much of his community work has been carried out as a charter member of the Rotary Club of West Footscray, of which he has been a board member for many years as well as having served as its vice-president.
