With its own recording studio, in-house talent agency, and full-scale dance and music departments, The Dream Academy in Williamstown is the place for up-and-coming singers, dancers and musicians.
‘Refinery Recording’ is an industry-standard recording studio giving students the opportunity to record demos and receive guidance by some of the best in the music industry,” studio director Jodie Cordina says.
“Recording studio owner, producer and songwriter James Leigh (musical director for Pseudo Echo and Tina Arena) offers students the true recording experience with a finished demo that has them sounding like the pros.”
The academy, which is celebrating its 18th year, holds dance classes in jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, acrobatics, cheerleading and new ‘Glee’ song and dance classes.
The music department has private tuition in vocals, piano, drums, guitar and song writing.
“Our students can dance for fun and fitness or towards a career,” Jodie says.
“Students wanting to take it to the next level are offered classes to train in internationally accredited dance exams and competitions through our Dream Team program.”
Jodie says students from the academy participated in almost 100 dance exams, all having a 100 per cent pass rate and many achieving honours-plus awards.
“Dance and vocal students won the state championship titles at Showcase and also competed in the National Finals in Queensland last January.
“Dance soloist eight-year old Shae Santiglia will compete at the national finals this January, while talented singer Aliyah Adonis won Filipino Idol.”
Teachers at the academy also have claims to fame.
“Our hip-hop teacher Sherry McCarthy featured in TV show Everybody Dance Now and musical theatre teacher Aljin Abela received the lead role in the tour of The Monkey Magic production.”
