Jobs galore at fashion frontier under $300m Highpoint upgrade

ABOUT 1750 new job positions will open up in Maribyrnong next month as part of Highpoint Shopping Centre’s $300 million redevelopment.

Spanish fashion powerhouse Zara and UK store Topshop will join David Jones and scores of other retailers opening on March 14 in the redevelopment’s final stage.

Anthony McNulty, development head for centre operator GPT, says the new Highpoint Fashion Mall has the west’s first David Jones store spread over two levels and 14,000 square metres. There will also be about 80 new speciality fashion, homeware and lifestyle stores.

“Once completed, Highpoint will be home to more than 520 retailers, feature new community spaces and 7000 car spaces,” he said.

GPT asset management head Matthew Faddy said Zara had launched 1700 stores across 85 countries. “We’re delighted to be the first Australian shopping centre owner to offer convenient access to international fashion giants Zara and Topshop under one roof.”

The fashion mall follows the Fresh Food Market and Eco Mall which opened last October.

Residents and community groups have welcomed the jobs boost with more than 2000 people attending a jobs expo at the centre earlier this month.

Job opportunities will be advertised on the Highpoint website in coming weeks.
