Sexual assault witnesses sought

Police are seeking witnesses to a sexual assault of a Footscray woman, 43, in Yarraville about 2am on Sunday, February 17. She was dragged into an alcove by a man of Caucasian appearance, in his 40s, with a medium build, dark and brushed-back thick hair, and wearing dark-coloured jeans. Reject tower, say council officers

An officers’ report to last night’s Maribyrnong Council’s city development meeting recommended it advise Planning Minister Matthew Guy that it does not support a $45 million, 26-storey tower planned for 1 Warde Street, Footscray.

Street’s a stage for festival

Seddon Festival is taking it to the streets this Saturday. From 10am-4pm, Charles Street will come alive with an impressive music line-up across two stages, street stalls and activities for young and old.

Groups support asylum seekers

A special fund-raising gig for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre will be held at Footscray’s Reverence Hotel this Saturday. Rain Factory will be supported by Stellarcaster and Only Aliens, from 7pm.

Gift to Twentyman Foundation

In an article ‘New paths to education’ last week the Weekly referred to Carlton footballer Heath Scotland donating $20,000 to a Twentyman Foundation program. This donation was actually made by Vedran Drakulic on behalf of Gandel Philanthropy. Scotland donated $3000.

Guerrilla’s in our midst

An exhibition showing local street artist Baby Guerrilla’s street art, paintings and sculpture opens at West Footscray’s Post Industrial Design, 6-8pm this Thursday. The exhibition runs until March 17.

Footy official killed in car crash

Tributes have been pouring in for popular football figure Patrick Joyce, 22, killed in a car accident in Footscray last weekend. A funeral was held on Monday for the widely respected vice-president of the West Footscray Football Club.
