Have a say in choosing street art
Maribyrnong residents can help choose a $170,000 public art installation destined for central Footscray. An open selection session will be held on Friday, March 15, when the public can see the shortlisted artists’ proposals, hear views from the selection panel, comment on the art and ask the artists questions. Selected artwork will be permanently installed at the intersection of Nicholson and Paisley streets. The session will be held 9am-1pm in the council offices.
Refund fee could help clean-up
Western suburbs Greens MP Colleen Hartland says this Sunday’s Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect time for the state government to look at a 10-cent refund scheme on drink containers. “We could prevent a lot of the rubbish if we could return our drink bottles, cans and cartons for a 10-cent refund, like they have in South Australia and the Northern Territory.” The clean-up will be at various locations in the area with Maribyrnong Council’s main clean-up at Braybrook’s Skinner Reserve, where volunteers from all sites can meet for a free barbecue.
Faith on show at station
The Brimbank and Maribyrnong Interfaith Network has joined forces with Metro Trains, Regional Rail Link and the Victorian Multicultural Commission for a special art project. The Faith 2 Faith Art in Public Spaces Exhibition is at Footscray station and other locations throughout this month. It features art created by Melbourne artists exploring the benefits and challenges of interfaith
dialogue and the interaction and communication between diverse religious, spiritual and cultural groups.
