Artwork honours the Stations
Westgate Vineyard Church, a contemporary Protestant church, will put a modern take on the Stations of the Cross with an art exhibition at the church leading up to Easter. Pastor Kathy Downes is pictured in front of one of 14 lockers that will each house an artwork depicting a station. The church is at 57 Stevedore Street, Williamstown. Details: 9399 3147
Target workers lose jobs
Up to 100 workers will lose their jobs when Target’s Altona North distribution centre shuts on April 26. Target Australia’s managing director Dene Rogers last week announced a review of the company’s structure, with four regional distribution centres to open. “All [Altona North] team members will be paid their full entitlements, which are well above industry standards, in addition to exhaustively exploring redeployment opportunities within Target.”
Couch potatoes with a purpose
Hobsons Bay’s mayor Angela Altair and deputy Luba Grigorovitch will sleep on couches at the civic centre during National Youth Week to raise money and awareness for a local youth homeless charity, Latitude: Directions for Young People. Council app spreads the knowledge
Maribyrnong Council has launched one of Melbourne’s first free smartphone applications for a council. ‘Maribyrnong City Services’ gives access to information on council events and news and an ability to search for facilities and services. To download, search for ‘Maribyrnong’ at the Apple App or Google Play Store.
