Rail, Tram and Bus Union: Hobsons Bay deputy mayor puts women on map

HOBSONS Bay’s deputy mayor has become the first woman elected to the rail division’s committee of management in the male-dominated, blue-collar Rail, Tram and Bus Union.

Cr Luba Grigorovitch (pictured), who is the union’s organiser, campaigns and women’s officer, was this month elected branch divisional president.

“It’s the first time a woman’s ever been on the committee of management and ever held such a position,” she said. “I am a proud and loud feminist.”

This month she received the national Jennie George award, given to a union official who has contributed to the advancement of women in unions.
