Painter Liz McKeag (pictured) is capturing on canvas the treasures of the Williamstown Botanic Gardens. Her work will be among the paintings entered in a ‘paint the gardens’ art competition. They will be displayed in the gardens on Sunday, with the winner taking a $500 first prize. Hobsons Bay Council and the Friends of Williamstown Botanic Gardens are co-ordinating the competition. Paintings may be done any time between now and Sunday. Entries will be displayed from 11am on Sunday, with the winner announced at 4.30pm. On the day there will be art activities for children, a book corner, a plant sale, entertainment by the Newport Folk and Fiddle Club, and refreshments from Hobsons Bay Relay for Life organisers to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Registration is open until Friday. To register, email kim.sawyer@unimelb.edu.au
