Help for time-poor Maribyrnong  parents

NURSES are visiting Maribyrnong childcare centres under an innovative child health services trial.

Maribyrnong Council offers free maternal child health services to all families with children up to school entry age, but many parents struggle to find time to visit maternal and child health centres.

As part of the four-month ‘maternal child outreach’ project, nurses have been visiting the Bulldogs Community Children’s Centre, Empire Early Learning Centre and Maribyrnong River Children’s Centre.

Mayor Catherine Cumming says being time-poor is a barrier for parents accessing important services such as child health, immunisation, breast feeding and nutrition. “By bringing the services to parents, the maternal child outreach project will be a huge help to families in the municipality.”

The pilot project, which is to be reviewed at the end of next month, is one of four similar projects being funded by the state government.
