Indie Music Channel awards: Ugly day for Altona Meadows gong winners

ALTONA Meadows band Waking Ugly has won two gongs at the second annual Indie Music Channel (IMC) awards held in Los Angeles.

Band members Darren Pace and Lydia Gardner won Best Pop Recording and Recording of the Year awards for their debut single You Know You Wanna, produced by Michael Zammit at Airwaves Recording Studio in Altona Meadows.

The band was also nominated for four other awards in the pop category, including best band, song, producer and video, and they received an album of the year nomination for their debut EP Say Something Sweet. Describing its sound as “ear candy that’s a little crunchy”, the pop/rock band says: “Winning these awards is such an honour for us and Michael Zammit. It’s great that up-and-coming acts still developing their fan base, like us, can be recognised in this way.”

IMC founder Christopher Ewing says: “They have great songs and Lydia’s voice is incredible”.

Gardner says the band will continue busking, film another music video, find new members and do some local shows. The band, which has been building a global online presence since its launch in 2010, plans to release its second album and hopes to tour Australia and the US next year.
