Netball

City West was outplayed from start to finish in a surprisingly lopsided 54-39 loss to North East Blaze in the Victorian Netball League championship. The Falcons struggled for circle penetration and were out-shot by a whopping 74 to 47 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night. Julia Knott (26 goals), Maggie Lind (eight) and Darcy Saunders (five) were accurate under the cylinder, combining for 83 per cent conversion, but delivery was in short supply.

Cross-country

Williamstown Athletics/Cross-Country Club entered seven teams in the annual cross-country relays at Jells Park. The best result for the club by The Strand was second-place finishes for both the men’s division 6 and 7 relay teams. The division 6 team was Andrew Mill (24.24), Abdi Sheikh (21.08), Rory Heddles (25.16) and George Malekakis (23.52), and division 7 Terry Pearce (24.47), Eero Keranen (23.54), Tim Close (27.48) and Aidan Keranen (29.38).

Rugby Union

Footscray ran riot to beat Endeavour Hills 65-0 in the Victorian Rugby Union premier division. The Bulldogs had eight individual try-scorers, including two each to Cruze Ah-Nau, Tim Diack and Isaako Tuifeai. Fly-half Martin Naufahu scored a try and landed five conversions.
