Altona Meadows four-storey apartment complex gets green light

RESIDENTS have lost a battle to stop a proposed four-storey, 80-dwelling apartment complex in Altona Meadows.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has approved plans by the Noordenne Family Group to build a “landmark” building with residential dwellings, a gymnasium and underground car park at the corner of Queen and Merton streets.

More than 50 residents objected to the proposal, saying it would be “the end of Altona Meadows as we know it.”

The plan was refused by Hobsons Bay Council.

The building will be the largest in Altona Meadows and higher than the adjacent Central Square shopping centre.
