A COMMUNITY planting day will be held along the banks of Skeleton Creek at Altona Meadows on Sunday.
Friends of Skeleton Creek and Altona Bay Wetlands will meet from 1-3pm in Carinza Avenue.
Friends secretary Denice Perryman is asking people to meet at the rotunda and barbecue area that was built with help from the Rotary Club.
“We formed about 20 years ago to try to protect the creek and its catchments and we have working bees once a month.”
The creek starts around Deer Park and winds through Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook before entering Port Phillip Bay.
Next to it are the Cheetham Wetlands, a wetland of international importance that attracts birds from as far as Siberia.
People are advised to dress for cold, wet weather, and to wear a hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and gloves, if possible. Work may include spreading mulch, weeding and watering.
For details, ring Ms Perryman on 0429 167 013.
