TWO members of Footscray Garden Club have been recognised with one of gardening’s highest honours.
The John Pascoe Fawkner medal for “exemplary service to horticulture” was awarded to long-serving members Irene Portelli and Maureen McKnight, who both have a strong passion for gardening.
Ms McKnight, who joined the club in 1995, has served as speaker co-ordinator and as steward to Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria’s guest judges during her membership.
“It is an honour to receive the award … since joining, my knowledge has grown and I enjoy being part of the club.”
Ms McKnight said that having her flowers featured in other member’s gardens was a highlight.
Ms Portelli, club secretary for 19 years, said the award was a “wonderful surprise”.
