Around the Bay: Bikes join production line for charity

ALTONA’S Toyota plant and Port Melbourne office aim to recruit 300 employees for the Bupa Around the Bay bike ride to raise money for children’s education and young people in need.

Michelle Cleary, Chris Harrod and Mark Maunder have already signed up to the Toyota Australia Cycling Team (TACT), which is expected to be the biggest corporate group in The Smith Family’s annual charity ride.

For three consecutive years, Toyota has won a Smith Family trophy for most funds raised by a motor industry team. Team captain Carlo D’Angelo said this year’s target to raise $30,000 was Toyota’s most ambitious yet – $18,800 more than the $11,200 raised last year.

“It’s a big target, but we like big targets,” he said.

The Smith Family this year aims to raise $1,275,000 to support 2470 students. The day-long cycling challenge, jointly run by Bicycle Network, is on October 20.
