A MAN was caught driving while under the influence of cannabis with a child in his car during a road blitz by Hobsons Bay highway patrol.
Acting Sergeant Graeme Crouch said the 31-year-old Yarraville man was caught last Thursday during a booze bus operation on Millers Road near the West Gate Freeway.
“He will be fined $433 and have his licence suspended for three months,” Acting Sergeant Crouch said.
“What was more alarming was the driver had his two-year-old daughter in the car.”
Drivers were tested at random for drugs. A 21-year-old Ballarat woman who tested positive for meth- amphetamines was fined $433 and had her licence suspended for three months.
A Seddon man, 29, was caught driving while unlicensed with a blood- alcohol level of .049.
A 49-year-old Altona North P-plater recorded a reading of .033. A 28-year-old Braybrook man who blew .093 had his licence cancelled for six months and was fined $433.
On Sunday, three drivers were fined for trying to avoid the patrol’s booze bus in Point Cook Road, Seabrook. They were additionally fined $289 each for crossing double lines.
A Point Cook man, 47, blew twice the legal limit at .1 while a 44-year-old man recorded a reading of .081.
Acting Sergeant Crouch vowed that police would step up their efforts and set up random breath-testing stations “in new and unique places”.
“I have ordered an increase in booze bus operations to the Hobsons Bay area,” he said. “We will continue to set up and test for the presence of alcohol and drugs at random times of the day and week.
“Every police vehicle is required to do random breath testing throughout their shift. It is clear that people are still not getting the message.”
