YARRAVILLE resident Karla Wignall has helped raise much-needed funds for disability care by leading an epic fund-raising bike ride around Fiji.
Seventeen cyclists, including nine with a disability, last month completed a 10-day 550-kilometre CyclePower ride around the island of Vitu Levu, raising more than $16,000.
Ms Wignall, a CyclePower co- founder, said the aim of the ride was to raise funds for people with a disability in Victoria as well as supporting disabled people in Fiji.
“Seeing the difficult living conditions of those with a disability in Fiji was eye-opening for many participants,” she said.
The cyclists met and spoke with local chiefs and members of the Fijian Paralympic Committee and donated a sports wheelchair and sporting equipment to the Nadi Special Development School.
