Shots ring out, Yarraville bikie clubhouse peppered

POLICE and bikies have clashed at a Yarraville clubhouse following a weekend shooting.

Police arrived at the Bros Motorcycle Club clubhouse in Campbell Street about 12.30am on Sunday following reports of gunshots.

They discovered bullets inside the clubhouse and a number of bullet holes in the building’s front door and garage roller-door.

Detective Senior Constable Brett Van Der Vliet said nobody was inside the clubhouse at the time of the shooting and no injuries had been reported.

“We don’t know what the motives are behind [the shooting],” he said. “We haven’t had any problems with the Bros in Yarraville for a very long time.”

Senior Constable Van Der Vliet could not rule out the possibility the shooting was an attack from a rival outlaw motorcycle gang. A 27-year-old Truganina man was arrested and is expected to be charged on summons with behaviour offences after he became aggressive during a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

Club members were reportedly hostile to the police presence after a search warrant was executed on the clubhouse, but the incident did not turn violent.

Footscray police’s Inspector Tony Long said local detectives were being supported by the Echo Taskforce in investigating the shooting at the Yarraville property.

He said such incidents were typically between outlaw bikie gangs and not aimed at members of the public.

“As with this incident, they are aimed at the OMCG’s [outlaw motorcycle gangs] clubhouse and almost always occur late at night when the area is deserted,” he said.
