Blindness yields dazzling insights

MOLLY Sweeney is blind, yet her possibilities are endless.

Meeting Molly Sweeney means entering into a world without boundaries and one of constant wonder.

Meeting Molly Sweeney, an intense and poetic play by Irish playwright Brian Friel, is being presented by The Old Van and the Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC) from tomorrow night until August 25.

Molly’s story is told through interconnected monologues by three characters – Molly, her husband Frank, and her surgeon, Mr Rice.

It’s directed by Fiona Blair, and the heart of the play is in the complexities of motivation and relationships that drive each character (actors Jane Nolan, Richard Bligh and Michael Treloar).

Meeting Molly Sweeney is at the FCAC from 7pm, Thursday to Saturday, with matinees on Friday at 10.30am and Sunday at 1pm.
